RECAP: Lacrosse battles Lock Haven but falls to Bald Eagles, 10-8

Raiders play close with Bald Eagles; Vosburg debuts with 14 saves

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team played a close game with Lock Haven on Friday but came up short, dropping a 10-8 decision to the Bald Eagles in a conference crossover on a sunny and breezy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
 
Shippensburg (2-2) took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter but was held scoreless for a 15-minute stretch. The Raiders scored the first two goals of the third quarter to re-gain the lead, 6-5, but a four-goal run by the Bald Eagles flipped the script and the visitors did not relinquish their advantage down the stretch.
 
Freshman Kayla Vosburg made her collegiate debut and was strong in the cage, making 14 saves for the Raiders. Vosburg impressed on free-position opportunities, stopping the Bald Eagles eight times on free-position shots.
 
Graduate Alana Cardaci matched her season high with four goals, bringing her season total to 10 through four games. Freshman Sara Vosburg recorded her second hat trick of the season, and sophomore Bailey Krahl caged a goal as well.
 
Senior Gabby Savarino had a solid defensive game, totaling a team-high three caused turnovers and a team-high five groundballs. Senior Hannah Seifried had a game-high seven draw controls; she and senior Jena MacDonald each contributed two assists. Senior Kasey Schuchardt and senior Sydney Costanza each had an assist as well.
 
Six Raiders each totaled multiple groundballs, including three for senior McKenna Keller.
 
Lock Haven (3-1) received a superlative goaltending performance from senior captain Lauren Girardi, who made 18 saves to propel the Bald Eagles to victory. Caitlin Morrow scored four goals and had an assist, and Zoe Waddell had a hat trick. Krysta Reading contributed four draw controls, four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
 
Shippensburg opens conference play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at nationally-ranked West Chester.
