SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had a strong start on Senior Day on Saturday but it was not enough to defeat Kutztown, falling to the Golden Bears by a score of 64-55 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (16-12, 12-10 PSAC) opened the game on a 7-2 run but Kutztown (15-5, 18-3) quickly responded. The Raiders trailed by seven points at halftime. SU used a 9-2 run to get within five points of the lead in the fourth quarter but did not get any closer.
Shippensburg posted a 43-28 rebound advantage over Kutztown, while the Golden Bears scored 27 points off 20 Raider turnovers.
Senior
Aunbrielle Green led the Raiders with 15 points and eight rebounds. She added a steal and a block.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, a team-high of five assists and two steals.
Sophomore
Treasure George contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Lauren Pettis had eight points and two blocks.
Kutztown had three players with double figures. Naia Pulliam led the Golden Bears with 16 points. Alexis Smith had 14 points and Abbey Hearn had 13 points.
Before the start of the game, Shippensburg recognized their six seniors:
Olivia Gregory,
Jacquelynne Baker, Jefferson, Green,
Lauren Mills and Aaliyah Nash.
Shippensburg, the PSAC Eastern Division No. 4 seed, will host Lock Haven, the Eastern Division No. 5 seed, at 5:30 p.m. Monday in a PSAC Tournament First Round game at Heiges Field House.
