SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team got career highs from graduate
Jake Biss and redshirt-junior
Dom Sleva on Monday night as the Raiders defeated visiting Mansfield, 94-82, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (17-8, 14-6 PSAC) closed the first half on an 11-0 run, including three consecutive three-pointers in a 90-second span by Biss, to take a 44-34 lead into the intermission. Biss scored 26 points in the first half on 10-of-19 shooting and 6-of-12 shooting from three-point range. Sleva had already reached a double-double by halftime with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Raiders out-rebounded the Mountaineers by 10 in the first half, including 13 offensive rebounds.
Mansfield (4-22, 3-17 PSAC) got within six points of the lead early in the second half, but SU countered with a run to lead by 17 points with 12:56 left. The Mounties replied with a 9-0 run in two minutes to make it an eight-point game with 10:28 remaining. SU got its lead back to 17 points with 3:27 left, with Mansfield getting as close as six points in the final minute.
Biss finished with career highs of 36 points and seven three-pointers. He was 13-of-25 from the field and 7-of-14 from three-point range. It's the most three-pointers in a single game by a Raider since Justin McCarthur set the single-game PSAC three-point accuracy record when he went 9-of-9 against East Stroudsburg on Feb. 1, 2018. Biss also contributed five assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block without committing a turnover while playing all 40 minutes.
Sleva dropped his sixth double-double of the season, putting up a career-high 28 points to along with 17 rebounds. Sleva was 10-of-16 from the field and added three assists and two steals. This was his fifth game of 15 or more rebounds this season.
Biss and Sleva combined for 64 points, the most by a Raider duo in more than a decade.
Junior
Carlos Carter had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, also playing all 40 minutes.
Senior
Kiyon Hardy put up seven points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Sophomore
Mamadou Toure played nine minutes off the bench, scoring three points and setting a new career high with six rebounds. Freshman
Satchel Ball had four rebounds and an assist.
Justice Smith, the PSAC's leading scorer, put up a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double to go along with two assists, a steal and a block. Smith was 9-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Jazz Farrell dropped 17 points, eight rebounds, and an assist. Eli Alvin had 15 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals. Manir Waller had 14 points, seven rebounds and a steal.
Monday's win extends Shippensburg's winning streak over Mansfield to 12 consecutive games.
Shippensburg will play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shepherd at the Butcher Athletic Center.
