SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team posted its fourth straight victory and finished an undefeated conference crossover weekend after defeating Slippery Rock, 92-70, Saturday night at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (6-1, 2-0 PSAC) extended a four-point halftime lead in the third quarter to pull away from The Rock in the final 20 minutes, scoring 24 points in the third quarter and 29 points in the fourth quarter. Slippery Rock (6-2, 1-1) held the lead for the majority of the first half until the Raiders closed the second quarter on a 13-5 run.
SU shot 51.6 percent from the field, its best shooting percentage this season.
Senior forward
Lauren Pettis led the way for the Raiders, posting a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, her third double-double of the season. She was 7-of-9 from the floor and had eight offensive rebounds.
Senior guard
Ariel Jones picked up right where she left off last night, posting another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She also added four steals and four assists. Junior
Treasure George had back-to-back double-digit scoring games, posting 19 points and three steals.
Sophomore forward
Abbie Miller recorded her first double-digit scoring game of the season with a career-high 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Fellow sophomore guard
Taja Colbert added four points and three assists.
Coming off the bench, graduate guard
Erin Gibbons added seven points, going a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and 3-of-3 at the free-throw line. Graduate guard
Mya Woodyard and freshman
Makayla Foddrell each contributed five points and three rebounds in the victory.
Slippery Rock was led by Isabellah Middleton, who scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Shippensburg takes a break and returns to action Dec.13 for a non-conference matchup against Goldey-Beacom at 5 p.m.
