PREVIEW: No. 2 Field Hockey to play No. 1 East Stroudsburg on Saturday for the NCAA National Championship at Seattle

Raiders to face Warriors at 4 p.m.

RENTON, Wash. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team will compete for the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship at 4 p.m. Saurday against No. 1 seed East Stroudsburg at Renton Memorial Stadium, Washington.
 
Shippensburg (16-3) and East Stroudsburg (19-2) are the No. 1 and No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Saturday's game is a rematch of the 2018 NCAA National Championship at Pittsburgh in which the Raiders defeated the Warriors, 1-0 in overtime. It is the second time the two teams are meeting this season —Shippensburg won against East Stroudsburg, 1-0 at Robb Sports Complex with a goal from Valu Paul in the third quarter.  
 
Overall, Shippensburg leads the overall series 35-24. The Raiders are on a 3-0 winning streak. SU faced ESU twice last season, one of them was the NCAA Semifinals which the Raiders won 2-1 with goals from Tess Jedeloo. Shippensburg has a 5-0 record against East Stroudsburg in the NCAA Tournament (2009 Quarterfinals, 2016 Quarterfinals, 2017 Semifinals, 2018 Championship, 2021 Semifinals).
 
Shippensburg is 17-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has won five NCAA Division II national titles: 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022. SU has won 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament games dating back through 2016.
 
The Raiders are making their 15th NCAA Championship appearance (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022), having won the National Championship in each of their last five semifinals appearances.
 
East Stroudsburg is in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time overall and 10th time in Division II. ESU is seeking its second NCAA Division II National Championship (2015).
