RECAP: Men’s Basketball felled at Seton Hill, 81-70

Sleva delivers third double-double in four games

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team could not slow down homestanding Seton Hill on Tuesday night, dropping an 81-70 decision to the Griffins in non-conference action at the McKenna Center.
 
Shippensburg (1-3) had three players in double-digit points. Graduate Luke Nedrow led the Raiders with 16 points and added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. He was 8-of-12 from the field.
 
Reigning PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, graduate Dom Sleva, had his third double-double with 13 points, a team-high 15 rebounds, and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Redshirt-senior Rashon Johnson added 12 points.
 
Senior Carlos Carter had eight points, nine rebounds and a game-high six assists. Redshirt-sophomore point guard Andrew Recchia scored eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
 
Seton Hill (5-0), under the direction of first-year head coach Ben Wilkins, has already improved upon its win total of last season (three). The Griffins shot 48 percent from the field, made 13 three-pointers (43 percent from long distance), scored 22 fast-break points and had 18 points off 13 Raider turnovers. Samuel Tabe led all scorers with 23 points.
 
SU held an 18-17 advantage midway through the first half but Seton Hill closed on a 21-9 run to lead 38-27 at halftime. The Griffins led by as many as 19 points in the second half before the Raiders closed the game on an 8-0 run.
 
Shippensburg will have its first home game of the season at 7 p.m. Monday when it hosts Bowie State at Heiges Field House.
