SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball controlled the possession of the game on Saturday afternoon and defeated Holy Family, 81-63, at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (3-1) had four players in double-digit points, including three starters. Senior
Ariel Jones led the Raiders with her second consecutive 20+ point game with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. She was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc by halftime, and had no turnovers.
Senior
Lauren Pettis led the Raiders in rebounds with her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She added two blocks and an assist. Junior
Treasure George had a great afternoon with her third consecutive double-digit scoring game with 16 points. George added five rebounds and a steal.
Coming off the bench, sophomore
Taja Colbert had her best performance with a career high of 17 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field and added three assists and a steal. Fellow sophomore
Abbie Miller had a career-high five assists and added two steals and five rebounds. Miller had the team's highest +/- with +24.
Shippensburg had a 13–0 start and held Holy Family (2-2) scoreless for four minutes at the start of the first quarter. A timeout called by the Tigers' head coach led them to an 8-0 run with two and half minutes left in the first quarter. At halftime, SU was shooting 62.5 percent from beyond the arc, going 5-of-8, while shooting 51.5% from the field and had 22 points in the paint and scored 19 points off HFU turnovers.
At the start of the second half, the Raiders held the Tigers to 0-of-3 from beyond the arc and shot 41.2 percent from the field. In the fourth quarter, SU went 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and was 50 percent from the field.
Shippensburg will be back in action after the Thanksgiving Break, as they travel to Bowie State next Sunday (Nov. 27) with a 2 p.m. tip off.
