The Shippensburg University men's swimming team completed its first competition of the 2022-23 season Saturday with a tri-meet at West Chester in which the Raiders faced the host Golden Rams and Southern Connecticut State.
 
SU competed 12 individual events that were bookended by relays on a busy day of competition. The quartet of sophomore Zaidian Van Orden, senior Elijah Zinn, sophomore David Johnson and junior Michael Salvatori capped the day with a third-place time of 3:22.77 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
 
Among the other solid performances in the opener included graduate Andrew Hale delivering a third-place time of 1:00.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Hale also paced the Raiders in the 100-yard freestyle (50.28) and the 200-yard IM (2:04.30).
 
Graduate Vin Salvatore delivered SU's fastest times in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.02) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.84). Senior David Bussard completed the 100-yard backstroke in 55.19 seconds, while freshman Kevin Noldy delivered a time of 55.26 seconds and had SU's fastest 50-yard freestyle of the day (22.64 seconds).
 
Salvatori cracked the two-minute mark in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.83, while Johnson had SU's fastest distance times of the day by completing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.77 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 1:49.05. Sophomore Nathan VanNatter led the Raiders in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming 1:49.05, while Van Orden completed the 100-yard butterfly in 54.91 seconds.
 
Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday at Donald N. Miller Pool.
