SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's basketball team limited Western Division top seed Seton Hill to 34-percent shooting on Monday night as it posted a wire-to-wire victory over the Griffins, 69-65, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mandatory crossover conference match at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (11-8, 7-6 PSAC) led 21-11 after the first quarter and 41-23 at halftime, holding Seton Hill (17-6, 11-3) to 24-percent shooting in the first half. SU went on a 13-6 run in the first quarter and a 9-0 run in the last two minutes of the second quarter to establish its 18-point halftime lead.
Seton Hill responded in the second half by shooting 44 percent from the field and scoring 16 points off turnovers. The Griffins got as close as three points of the lead with 37 seconds left in the game, but a free-throw made by freshman
Taja Colbert made it a two-possession game and sealed the deal for Shippensburg. SU finished the game 12-of-15 (80 percent) at the free-throw line.
Shippensburg posted a 48-30 rebound advantage over Seton Hill and scored 44 of its 69 points in the paint. Sixteen of it's 21 first-quarter points were produced in the paint.
SU's passing was also strong; the team's 18 assists are its second-most in a game this season. The Raiders had assists on 11 of its 18 first-half field goals.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green, led the Raiders with 17 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double this season and the 12th of her career. She added a career-high five assists to go along with two steals and a block.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson contributed 15 points and five rebounds while adding six assists. She was 6-of-10 from the field.
Redshirt-junior
Erin Gibbons stepped up with a season-high 11 points, her most in a game as a Raider. She was 5-of-9 from the field and added two assists and a steal.
Junior
Lauren Pettis was a fourth Raider in double figures with 10 points. She added eight rebounds and was 5-of-8 from the field. Sophomore
Treasure George contributed seven rebounds and was 2-of-2 at the free-throw line.
Seton Hill was led by Katie Nolan with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Griffins posted double figures, including 12 points from Sonia Sarda.
Shippensburg is back in action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Millersville at Heiges Field House.
