Leah Graybill eclipsed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) indoor record in the 200 meters on Saturday to highlight the day for the Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team at Bucknell's Gulden Invitational.
Graybill was named the Female Track Event MVP of the 2022 Gulden Invitational, with her record-setting 200 meters the keystone performance. She ran 24.91 seconds on the Gerhard Fieldhouse flat track, which converts to 24.53 seconds when converted to the NCAA Championships competition track. It's two-tenths of a second faster than her December run of 25.1 seconds at the Bison Opener, which itself enhanced her school record.
The converted time of 24.53 seconds surpasses the listed PSAC indoor record of 24.66 seconds, set by Divonne Franklin at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships that were contested on the oversized track at Edinboro University's Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome.
Graybill's time is also a NCAA provisional qualifier that ranks second on the national leaderboard pending the results that come in from around the country this weekend.
It was just one of three events on the day for Graybill, who posted a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash of 7.71 seconds and ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay that placed third in 4:07.95. Joining Graybill on the 4x4 were
Riley Tryninewski,
Lieke Black and
Caroline Mastria.
SU recorded seven performances on the day that satisfied the more rigid PSAC qualifying standards. In addition to Graybill's two qualifiers, Mastria ran seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.45.
Two efforts from the mid-distance/distance squad merited PSAC qualification.
Isabelle Gulgert ran third in the 3,000 meters, posting a time of 10:45.09.
Kyra Gerber finished eighth in the mile, running 5:19.53. She also posted a Top 5 finish in the 800 with a time of 2:28.18.
Highlights from the field included
Sasha Lee posting a fifth-place triple jump of 36 feet, 1 ½ inches (11.01 meters) and
Kate Matrisciano putting the shot 41 feet, 3 inches (12.57 meters) for a sixth-place finish. Both performances are early season bests for both women.
The Gulden Invitational is one of the few scored meets in which the Raiders compete during the indoor season. Shippensburg posted a fifth-place finish in the team standings with 36 points. Bloomsburg was sixth with 34 points and East Stroudsburg was seventh with 31 points.
Shippensburg splits its squad next weekend, with contingents headed to both Bucknell and Penn State.
