RECAP: Women’s Swimming bests Edinboro on Senior Day, 113-87

SU honors its eight seniors and wins five events in its return to action

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team honored its eight seniors Friday afternoon as it competed in its final home dual meet of the regular season. The Raiders won five events and achieved six conference qualifying performances in a 113-87 victory over Edinboro at Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
Shippensburg got a big win late in the meet from senior Natalie Wiley in the 100-yard breaststroke before the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of freshman Lauren Croll, sophomore Sammy Taylor, freshman Allie Keeling and senior Madison Breiner claimed victory with a time of 1:42.62.
 
Keeling made an impressive debut by posting conference qualifiers in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle – winning both events. Her time in the 500-yard freestyle was 5:19.80 and her time in the mile was 18:04.66.
 
Breiner was also an event winner on the day, claiming the 200-yard freestyle with a conference cut of 2:01.42. She also took second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a conference cut of 55.79 seconds. Croll took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a conference cut of 25.09 seconds, and senior Tomomi Nakano took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a PSAC cut of 1:02.29.
 
In the exhibition heat of the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Alyssa Tomb led the Raiders with a time of 1:13.31 and freshman Emily Newton swam 1:13.67.
 
Before the match, SU honored its eight seniors: Breiner, Rebecca Entner, Bri Joll, Shannan Maher, Nakano, Eva Tice, Camryn Vila and Wiley.
 
Shippensburg will have one more competition before the conference championships in mid-February. The Raiders will travel to Navy on Saturday, Jan. 29.
