SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Jazmin Petrantonio scored five goals on Sunday afternoon as the No. 4 Shippensburg University field hockey team dispatched Coker in its 2021 season opener, 7-2, at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (1-0) scored four goals in the first quarter – two by Petrantonio and two by freshman
Chloe Prettyman – and built a 6-2 lead by halftime. Petrantonio had both goals in the second quarter, including one on a penalty stroke, and capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter with 10:06 to go.

It is the 10th career hat trick for Petrantonio and the third time in her career she has scored five or more goals in a game.

Shippensburg finished with a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-5 advantage in corners – the Raiders earned seven corners in the fourth quarter. Senior goalkeeper
Meg Thompson made one save in her first collegiate start.

Anna Gruber nudged a pass to Petrantonio for the first goal. Senior
Jenna Sluymer fired a shot that was tipped home by Prettyman for goal number four, and sophomore
Maura Mears set up Petrantonio for goal number five.

Coker (0-1) got two goals from Britt Kabo and received a strong goaltending performance from Kelsey Gibbons, who finished with 12 saves.

Shippensburg returns to action next weekend with a non-conference matchup at No. 1 West Chester at Vonnie Gros Field.
