The Shippensburg University men's soccer team could not preserve an early lead on Saturday, dropping a 2-1 decision to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival No. 12 Millersville at Pucillo Field.
Shippensburg (0-2-2, 0-2-0 PSAC East) scored in the opening minute of play when the Raiders won possession in the offensive zone and sophomore
Griffin Redding finished a shot into the net off an assist by senior
Cory Ferguson.
No. 12 Millersville (5-1-0, 1-1-0 PSAC East) would respond twice in the first half, however, to take the lead. In the 15th minute, Mike Kreider headed home a corner kick from Spencer Shortt. Less than six minutes before halftime, a Frank Astarita goal off a failed clear proved to be the game winner.
The Raiders played with a man advantage for the final 15 minutes of play following a red card issued to the Marauders but were unable to find the back of the net.
Freshman
Cody Willoughby once again made several key stops, and equaled his career high with seven saves.
Shippensburg will look to get in the win column at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Shepherd at David See Field.
