The Shippensburg University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory at Bloomsburg on Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium that was delayed at the start for more than three hours due to inclement weather.
Shippensburg (2-2-1, 2-0-1 PSAC East) got a goal with 9:21 remaining from sophomore
Maddie Stichter, the first of her collegiate career, after a scrum outside the box off a throw-in. Sophomore
Kendra Barlow made four saves to record her second shutout of the season.
Bloomsburg (2-2-1, 1-1-1) dominated possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half but could not capitalize on its territorial advantage. The Huskies had two free kicks just outside the box, one was stopped by Barlow and another was sent high over the net. BU also hit the post with a shot during its offensive blitz. Overall, Bloomsburg totaled 21 shots to Shippensburg's three, but shots on goal was just a 4-2 margin.
Overall, the Raider defense did not break and navigated the fog of Steph Pettit Stadium to propel Shippensburg to its first victory over Bloomsburg since 2016, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Huskies.
Shippensburg will continue divisional play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Millersville.
