BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team began its Fall non-championship season on Saturday with Day 1 of the Bloomsburg Invitational. The tournament consisted of six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools, with doubles being played in the morning followed by singles play.Â
Â
In doubles, the Raiders three pairs played against tough opponents from Mercyhurst and Clarion. Sophomores
Jessalyn Morrow and
Brighid Cantwell were on serve until Clarion broke serve at 4-4. The match came down to a sudden-death deuce that was claimed by the Golden Eagles to give them a 6-4 win.
Â
In singles, Morrow, senior
Kayla Tryanski and freshman
Amy Phillips went to the distance with their matches. Tryanski and Phillips lost in third-set tiebreaks, but Morrow was able to use the wind to her advantage and beat her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.Â

The Raiders will be back for the second day of competition at the Bloomsburg Invitational. The first serve is at 10 a.m.Â
