9/11/2021 9:18:00 PM

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team began its Fall non-championship season on Saturday with Day 1 of the Bloomsburg Invitational. The tournament consisted of six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools, with doubles being played in the morning followed by singles play.

In doubles, the Raiders three pairs played against tough opponents from Mercyhurst and Clarion. Sophomores Jessalyn Morrow and Brighid Cantwell were on serve until Clarion broke serve at 4-4. The match came down to a sudden-death deuce that was claimed by the Golden Eagles to give them a 6-4 win.

In singles, Morrow, senior Kayla Tryanski and freshman Amy Phillips went to the distance with their matches. Tryanski and Phillips lost in third-set tiebreaks, but Morrow was able to use the wind to her advantage and beat her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.

The Raiders will be back for the second day of competition at the Bloomsburg Invitational. The first serve is at 10 a.m.
