NCAA DAY 1: Men’s 4x100-Meter Relay qualifies for finals

SU runs 40.72 seconds to earn the seventh seed

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Shippensburg University men's 4x100-meter relay team of Stephon Brown, Mo Whittle, EJ Dorwil and Eric Kirk qualified for the finals of the event at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Grand Valley State University.
 
Shippensburg ran 40.72 seconds in Thursday's prelims, just .16 seconds off the school record, to earn the seventh seed in Saturday's finals. The Raiders and Fort Hays State both ran 40.72 seconds, but the Tigers ran one one-thousandth of a second faster to earn the sixth seed (40.713 seconds for Fort Hays, 40.714 seconds for Shippensburg). Dorwil and Kirk were especially strong over the final 200 meters of the relay. 
 
SU posted the fourth-fastest time in the first heat, which ultimately got them in the final by half a second. Texas A&M-Commerce ran the fastest time of prelims (39.74 seconds) to earn the top seed in the finals.
 
Saturday's finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. Shippensburg will run in Lane 2. The Top 8 finishers will earn All-America honors.
