SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Leah Graybill improved her school record in the 100 meters on Saturday and
Kate Matrisciano posted a NCAA provisional qualifier in the shot put as the Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team hosted the majority of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for the 16th Annual Paul Kaiser Classic on a sunny and breezy day at Seth Grove Stadium.
With the PSAC Championships just two weeks away, the Paul Kaiser Classic was an excellent barometer for the schools in competition. SU won six events – four on the track and two in the field.
Sprints
Graybill battled Cal U's Divonne Franklin in the 100 and the 200 on Saturday, claiming victory in the latter with a time of 25.00 seconds. Franklin won the clash in the 100 with a Top 10 national time of 11.65 seconds, but Graybill's second-place time of 11.96 seconds is the first time in school history that a woman has broken the 12-second mark in the 100 meters. It's a new PR of .05 seconds.
Caroline Mastria had a great battle in the 400 meters with Kutztown's Raechel Bonner. Mastria was just 0.25 seconds behind Bonner, finishing second with a season best of 57.21 seconds. Bonner, Mastria and Graybill rank 1-2-3 on the conference leaderboard for the 400.
