RECAP: Lacrosse uses second-half surge to defeat Shepherd, 12-9

Cardaci, Seifried, Savarino post hat tricks; Seifried hits draw control milestone

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team opened the second half on a 5-1 run Wednesday to pull away from host Shepherd, defeating the Rams, 12-9, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Ram Stadium.

Shippensburg (3-7, 3-6 PSAC East) held Shepherd (3-6, 3-6) to just one goal in the first 26 minutes of the second half to extend a 7-6 halftime advantage into a five-goal lead with four minutes left. The Raiders committed just 14 turnovers, one off their season low, and got 11 saves from goalkeeper Ally Weneta.

Three Raiders recorded hat tricks. Hannah Seifried scored three goals, collected three groundballs and had three draw controls – making her one of six players in school history to achieve 100 career draw controls. The hat trick is the fifth of the season for Seifried and her ninth in the last 16 games.

Gabby Savarino notched her third hat trick of the season and the seventh of her career and also led the team with four draw controls. Alana Cardaci posted her fifth hat trick of the season and the 22nd of her career, scoring three goals and collecting three groundballs.

Bailey Krahl had a goal and two assists, while Addie Kalama added a pair of assists. Maddy Siejk and Kayla Jones also found the back of the net in the contest.

Senior Madi Jones totaled a team high four groundballs and had a caused turnover. Jessica DeMarte, McKenna Keller and Clairanne Chairs were among the Raiders who finished with multiple groundballs.

Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.
