SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University Football Locker Room was unveiled to the team on Sunday afternoon, marking the first time that the players were able to step inside and experience the facility.
Â
The Football Locker Room, located behind Seth Grove Stadium, is a state-of-the-art building that spans more than 5,000 square feet and boasts 111 modern lockers. Each locker features LED lighting and is outfitted with USB charging ports, an electrical outlet, and a digital lock for possessions.
Â
Other features of the Football Locker Room include a contemporary sound system, an expanded and modernized shower facility, televisions, and a player's lounge.
Â
"To walk in and see the locker room, it was an astonishing feeling," defensive lineman
Cameron Tinner said. "We got to see everything that was done, and it's just a great environment to be around."
Â
The locker room got its first use on Monday in advance of the team's inaugural spring practice. The football team is split this semester between the new locker room and the old locker room to maintain distancing and to comply with COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
Â
"Adrenaline was pumping, we were excited, and we couldn't wait to see this place," tight end
David Balint III said. "I think it's going to bring a new aspect to practice, guys are excited to be here, excited to compete, and I think it's definitely going to do nothing but help us out."
Â
Safety
Trey Paul added: "I'm proud to be a part of this program – it's an honor and a privilege. This addition is only going to help us get better going forward."
Â
Structurally, the Football Locker Room is connected to Seth Grove Stadium by an extended tunnel that adjoins Student Association Field.
Â
The Football Locker Room was made possible by the gift of $2 million from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The gift,
announced in October 2019, specified it be used to build the locker room.
