RECAP: Wrestling drops season-opening dual meet to Elizabethtown

Raiders get win from Fouse at 197 pounds

The Shippensburg University wrestling team participated in its first dual meet in 630 days Wednesday night, hosting Elizabethtown at Heiges Field House. The visiting Blue Jays won eight of the nine contested bouts and claimed a 38-3 victory in the season opener for both teams.
 
Shippensburg (0-1) got a win at 197 pounds from Alex Fouse, who claimed an 8-4 decision. Fouse used two first-period takedowns and another in the third period to score the lone Raider victory of the night.
 
Redshirt-senior DeAndre Reed recorded two takedowns in his match at 149 pounds and freshman Josh Jackson recorded a two-point near fall in his match at 133 pounds.
 
Connor Livingston opened the night with an exhibition win, wrestling up to heavyweight and claiming a 9-5 decision.
 
Elizabethtown (1-0) won five matches by major decision, two by decision, one by fall and one by forfeit.
 
Shippensburg heads to Alvernia on Sunday for competition in the Alvernia Open.
