The Shippensburg University women's swimming team advanced 13 individuals to evening finals Saturday as it continued its weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational held at the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
The lone relay of the day was the 200-yard medley relay in which senior
Tomomi Nakano, freshman
Lauren Croll, freshman
Kristin Gebhard and senior
Madison Breiner placed fifth with a time of 1:48.59. Nakano's was timed at 27.32 seconds on the opening backstroke split.
Of SU's finalists, 10 performances satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard. Breiner was the lone finalist in the 200-yard freestyle, placing fourth overall with an 'A' finals time of 1:56.54.
Sophomore
Alyssa Tomb delivered a superlative performance in the evening finals of the 400-yard individual medley (IM), shedding four seconds off her morning prelim time in placing third overall with a time of 4:40.35. Senior
Bri Joll swam 4:52.34 in the 'B' final and junior
Manisha Kapoor swam 5:12.04 in the 'C' final.
Nakano and Gebhard were the team pacesetters in the 100-yard butterfly. Nakano won the 'C' final by swimming 1:00.05, while Gebhard improved her best to 1:01.07 during morning prelims. Junior
Kallie Lyle swam 1:02.87 in the prelims of the 100-yard backstroke to pace the Raiders in that event.
The most prolific event of the night was the 100-yard breaststroke, which featured five Raider finalists. Croll nearly cracked an SU Top 10 for the second straight day, swimming 1:07.97 during the morning prelims to qualify for the 'A' final. Croll swam 1:08.47 at night.
Senior
Natalie Wiley impressed with a victory in the 'B' final, placing ninth overall with a time of 1:08.81. Freshman
Emily Newton got into the 'B' final as well after swimming a lifetime PR of 1:09.86 in the morning prelims.
Freshman
Gracie Wetzel also notched a PR in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing 21st out of the 'C' final with a time of 1:10.91. Sophomore
Lexington Wagner made the 'C' final by virtue of her morning prelim time of 1:10.94.
Sunday's competition begins at 10 a.m. with prelims.
