Senior Matt Bochanski set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke Saturday night to highlight the second day of competition for the Shippensburg University men's swimming team at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational held at the Kunkel Aquatic Center.

Bochanski swam 56.63 seconds Saturday evening, placing third in the 'A' final, to improve his PR by .75 seconds. He swam nearly two full seconds faster than his morning prelim time to achieve the school record. His performance also leapfrogged him from fifth into first on the school record, surpassing the previous top mark of Sean Minford (56.70 seconds) recorded in 2013.

Senior Andrew Hale, now fourth all-time at SU in the event, came within .09 seconds of his PR with an impressive fifth-place time of 56.99 seconds. Freshman Nathan VanNatter won the 'C' final in the 100-yard breaststroke with a huge PR of 1:00.25.

Overall, Shippensburg had 13 men qualify for evening finals and totaled 14 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard.

The evening session began with senior Trevor Woolwine, Hale, senior Vin Salvatore and junior Elijah Zinn posting a fourth-place finish of 1:34.55 in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay opened with Woolwine timed at a 24.65-second split over the 50 yards of backstroke.

Woolwine paced the Raiders in the 100-yard backstroke and came within .07 seconds of cracking the SU Top 10 list in the event, placing fourth in the evening 'A' final with a new PR time of 52.54 seconds.

Juniors Michael Hannig and David Bussard narrowly missed their own PRs in the event, delivering excellent times. Hannig finished sixth overall, completing the 'A' final in 52.87 seconds, while Bussard was 11th after touching the wall in the 'B' final in 53.73 seconds. Junior Alec Burger took 22nd in 55.45 seconds.

Salvatore had his second straight day with a PR, completing the 100-yard butterfly in a 12th-place time of 52.41 seconds. Freshman David Johnson improved his season best in the 100-yard butterfly to 53.15 seconds, while Burger completed his swim in 54.08 seconds.

Freshman Zaidian Van Orden was one of four Raider finalists in the 200-yard freestyle, completing the 'A' final with a PR of 1:45.54 for an eighth-place finish.

Graduate Eric Zimmerman was 11th in 1:46.40 after swimming 1.5 seconds faster in his evening final than in his morning prelim. Redshirt-sophomore JC Greenwood was 13th; his fastest time of the day came in prelims on a time of 1:46.94. Zinn reached the 'C' final and swam a PR of 1:49.49.
