SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University's
Trey Paul was named Thursday afternoon to the 2021 Division II Super Region One Academic All-District ® Team, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Paul is an academic senior and a finance major who possesses a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). He recently completed his second straight season as a team captain and was once again a starting safety in the team's secondary.
Paul is one of just four defensive backs selected to the Super Region One Academic All-District ® Team, which includes all football schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mountain East Conference (MEC), Northeast-10 Conference (NEC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).
In 2021, Paul was named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team and ranked third in the PSAC with 1.2 passes defensed/game. He led the team with a career-high four interceptions and nine pass breakups en route to his 13 pass defenses. His 63 tackles also led the team, as Paul recorded a season-high 11 tackles at East Stroudsburg and contributed five or more tackles in eight games.
Paul is set to graduate this December with 163 career tackles (102 solo), five career interceptions, 21 career pass defenses, 5.0 career tackles-for-loss (TFLs), and two forced fumbles.
The Academic All-District ® Team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Paul is one of 24 total honorees from Super Region One who are now eligible for consideration for the Academic All-America ® Team that will be announced Friday, December 17.
This is the sixth consecutive year that SU Football has had at least one Academic All-District ® honoree. Paul was honored in 2020-21 and is now a two-time honoree. Tig Spinelli and Sean Judge were honored in 2019, and Spinelli, Josh Lister and Chase Yocum were honored in 2018. Colin McDermott and Ryan Zapoticky were named Academic All-Americans and Cole Chiappialle was named to the Academic All-District Team in 2017. Justin Pyle was honored in 2016.
