SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had four players post double figures on Saturday night and held visiting Bowie State to just 33-percent shooting from the field in posting a 73-59 victory over the Bulldogs from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (2-0) used a 17-7 run at the beginning of the third quarter to establish a 50-37 lead. Bowie State (0-1) trailed by three points at halftime but could not get within less than seven points of the lead after the Raiders' third-quarter run.
Senior
Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 21 points – the 22nd 20-point game of her career. Jefferson scored 15 points in the second half – including 11 in the fourth quarter. She also added three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Junior
Lauren Pettis tied her career high points with 19. Pettis scored 13 of her points in the first half and was 8-of-10 from the field. She also added seven rebounds, three blocks and one steal.
Junior
Lauren Mills finished with 13 points – her second straight game in double figures. She added six rebounds and was 5-of-8 from the field.
Junior
Aunbrielle Green was the fourth Raider in double figures, finishing with 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and a block. She went 2-2 from the free-throw line.
Senior
Ariel Jones had a team-high of four steals, scored seven points, added three assists, and grabbed five rebounds.
Bowie State 16 points from Anii Harris and 10 points from Katerra Myers. The Bulldog bench totaled 33 points.
Shippensburg hosts Jefferson at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House.
