Castello’s double-double makes him the third SU player with 1,000 career rebounds

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team put six players in double figures Saturday and hit 11 more three-pointers as it defeated host Mansfield, 81-55, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Decker Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (19-4, 15-2 PSAC) used a 15-3 run over the final 5:19 of the first half and a 21-8 run over the first six minutes of the second half to lead by 33 points, 60-27, with 13:57 remaining. SU finished with 22 assists and committed just eight turnovers while out-rebounding the hosts by a 49-35 margin.

Senior John Castello grabbed a double-double in just 20 minutes of action, totaling 10 points, 12 rebounds and three assists to become the third player in school history to record 1,000 career rebounds. Castello (1,476 points, 1,003 rebounds) joins Dustin Sleva (2,071 points, 1,140 rebounds) and the late Keith Hill (1,780 points, 1,118 rebounds) in SU's 1,000/1,000 club.

Redshirt-sophomore Dom Sleva nearly had a double-double off the bench, leading the Raiders with 13 points to go along with nine rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophomore Carlos Carter scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting; he also had six rebounds and three assists.

Junior Jake Biss had 11 points, making 3-of-5 from three-point range, to go along with eight assists and just two turnovers. It is the first time in his career that Biss has had eight or more assists in back-to-back games.

Senior Lamar Talley scored 11 points; he was 3-of-4 from three-point range. Talley became the 11th player in school history with at least 100 three-pointers.

Sophomore Luke Nedrow posted double figures for the eighth time this season, scoring 11 points including one three-pointer. Junior Kiyon Hardy contributed seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

Mansfield (6-16, 5-12) finished 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) from three-point range. Eli Alvin led the Mountaineers with 15 points off the bench.

Shippensburg travels to Millersville on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Marauders.
