RECAP: Men’s Basketball Caps Regular Season With 76-57 Win at Kutztown

SU enters postseason as Eastern Division No. 1 seed

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team concluded the regular season Saturday with a convincing 76-57 victory at Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Keystone Arena.

Shippensburg (22-6, 18-4 PSAC) finishes the season as the PSAC Eastern Division championships, while Kutztown (11-17, 9-13) was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. The Raider defense limited the Golden Bears to 34-percent shooting and held their opponent under 60 points for the second straight game.

SU took a double-digit lead midway through the first half and led by as many as 25 points down the stretch. The Raiders shot 48 percent from the field, including 53 percent in the first half, and out-rebounded the Golden Bears by 11 (44-33).

Sophomore Carlos Carter led all scorers, equaling his career high with 22 points. Carter was 8-of-10 from the field, making his lone three-point attempt, and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line. It is the fourth time this season has scored 20 or more points in a game.

Senior John Castello shot 8-of-12 from the field and finished with a double-double, totaling 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Luke Nedrow nearly achieved his first career double-double, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Lamar Talley cracked double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Junior Kiyon Hardy added five points off the bench.

Junior Jake Biss attempted just three field goals in the game, with two of those attempts coming in the final five minutes. Biss finished with two points, both of which were recorded at the free-throw line, but had five assists and five rebounds.

KU's lone player in double figures was Tarojae Brake, who ended up with 10 points. The Golden Bears were 6-of-23 (26 percent) from three-point range.

Shippensburg will host the winner of the PSAC First Round game between Millersville and Shepherd at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a conference quarterfinal at Heiges Field House.
