SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Construction began Tuesday on turf replacement projects at two of Shippensburg University's athletic venues: SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium and Robb Sports Complex/David See Field.

Both venues are having their existing artificial turf surfaces removed. They will be replaced with new Astroturf surfaces. Additional drainage work and other minor repairs will also be completed at each facility.

"The most important aspect of any facility work that we do is to provide improvements that benefit our student-athletes," said Jeff Michaels, director of athletics. "This is a great development for our student-athletes and I'm excited about our teams being able to use these new fields."

The existing surfaces at each venue were installed in 2010.

"We got to the point in the lifespan of the current turf surfaces where it was simply time to make the change," Michaels said. "I'm happy that we are going to be able to get both of the turf projects completed over the next two months."

Fans can view progress of the construction at Seth Grove Stadium via the ABC 27 weather camera that is installed at the stadium. The camera is linked above.

Robb Sports Complex/David See Field was first fitted with an artificial surface in 2003 that was replaced in 2010. Robb Sports Complex is the primary home for both field hockey and lacrosse, while the same area is also known as David See Field when soccer games are played at the facility. The field also receives frequent use throughout the academic year by club sports and intramurals. The area was originally opened for athletic competition in Spring 1934 and has bleacher seating for 1,000 spectators.

Seth Grove Stadium opened Sept. 9, 1972 and is named for the late J. Seth Grove, former faculty member, athletic director and coach at Shippensburg. It is home to the football and track & field teams. The facility is also used for various events, including the PIAA track and field championships, and seats 7,700.
