RECAP: Women’s Basketball Felled at Shepherd, 78-71

SU limited to just 28 second-half points

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had its five-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday night as the Raiders were defeated by host Shepherd, 78-71, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from the Butcher Athletic Center.
 
Shippensburg (13-7, 10-4 PSAC) closed the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 43-31 lead into halftime. The Raiders were limited to just 28 points in the second half, however, as Shepherd (15-5, 9-5) took a 66-63 lead with 4:15 remaining on a four-point play and would not trail the rest of the way.
 
The Raiders could not overcome 22 turnovers – its second-most of the season – while the Rams went 4-of-7 from three-point range in the fourth quarter after going 2-of-19 from three-point range in the first three quarters.
 
Junior Destiny Jefferson led Shippensburg with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Junior Kryshell Gordy scored 13 points – 10 in the first quarter – to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.
 
Sophomore Aunbrielle Green scored 13 points and had nine rebounds off the bench, shooting 6-of-10 from the field. Junior Ariel Jones was limited to 12 points but had six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
 
Sophomore Lauren Pettis earned a start and had five points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Lauren Mills finished with seven points and four rebounds. Freshman Treasure George made a career-high three free throws.
 
Marley McLaughlin scored 28 points for the Rams, including 15 (4-of-4 from three-point range) in the fourth quarter. Abby Beeman had 19 points despite going 0-for-9 from three-point range, and had 10 assists.
 
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts East Stroudsburg from Heiges Field House.
