RECAP: Mikkelsen’s Goal in Waning Seconds Gives Women’s Soccer 1-0 Win at Frostburg

Mikkelsen converts header off corner with two seconds left for the win

Junior Kendall Mikkelsen converted a header with two seconds remaining in regulation Saturday night to propel the Shippensburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory in a non-conference matchup at Frostburg State.

Shippensburg (2-0) dominated possession in the second half, posting a 14-4 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks over the final 45 minutes. SU also hit iron with shots on multiple occasions in the second half in their pursuit of a goal before Mikkelsen's strike, which came off a corner kick by sophomore K.K. O'Donnell.

Junior goalkeeper Delaney Shifflett was credited with two saves in achieving her second consecutive shutout.

Saturday's win marked the first shutouts achieved in consecutive games by Shippensburg since Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, 2016 (4-0 at Pitt-Johnstown, 1-0 at Goldey-Beacom).

The Raiders open divisional play at 1 p.m. Wednesday versus Shepherd from David See Field.
