SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University has hired Madeline Mulhall as the Director of the Academic Center for Student-Athletes.

The Academic Center for Student-Athletes, housed inside Ezra Lehman Memorial Library, is currently undergoing a renovation. Upon its completion, it will be colloquially referred to as the Raiders Academic Center for Student-Athletes (RAC). Mulhall will direct this new center, which will play a daily role in retention and academic success for Shippensburg's student-athletes.

Mulhall's position, previously known as the Coordinator of Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes, provides academic support and programming to ensure that all student-athletes are connected with appropriate resources that support their success.

Her regular tasks will include the development and coordination of year-round programs and activities designed to support student-athletes' academic success, retention, and graduation. She will collaborate with SU's Learning Center faculty and staff to coordinate tutoring services and academic workshops for student-athletes.

Prior to her appointment as the Director of the Academic Center for Student-Athletes, Mulhall served as both the graduate assistant in the SU Political Science department and as an intern and event manager for the SU Department of Athletics.

In her role as the graduate assistant in political science, Mulhall assisted department faculty members with individual research projects and data analysis while also supporting efforts associated with assessments, grading and academic counseling for students. Mulhall also served as a tutor, focusing on the development of effective study habits and writing skills for students while also developing learning resources and academic success plans.

As the athletic department intern, Mulhall held many responsibilities, including collaboration with various campus groups to facilitate Competitive Edge Workshops and student-athlete development programming focusing on academic, personal and career goals. Her role as the athletics event manager involved facilitating gameday responsibilities at football, men's basketball, and women's basketball games while also supervising student staff, ticket sales and promotions.

As an undergraduate student-athlete, Mulhall was extremely active in a variety of roles on campus. In addition to 88 career games with the softball team from 2015-18, including two years as a team captain, Mulhall was the president of both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Shippensburg's chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She also served as the female athletics representative for Shippensburg University's Student Government Association (SGA).

A PSAC Scholar-Athlete and Dean's List student, Mulhall's service as an event manager for the Athletic Department dates back to her time as an undergraduate. As a senior in 2017-18, Mulhall was the recipient of the APSCUF-SU Jane Goss Coaches' Student Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Service.

Professionally, Mulhall has attended numerous development workshops, including the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar, NCAA Inclusion Forum, the NCAA Career in Sports Forum and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Game Environment Summit. She is currently a member of Women Leaders in College Sports and the Shippensburg University Women's Consortium.

Mulhall graduated cum laude from Shippensburg in 2018 with a bachelor of arts in political science and a minor in coaching. She is continuing to study toward a master's degree in public administration and is expected to graduate in December.
