The Shippensburg University men's basketball team completed its regular season Saturday with an 88-50 victory at Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Nelson Field House.
Shippensburg (22-6, 16-4 PSAC) will now host Lock Haven (12-14, 8-12) in a PSAC First Round Tournament game at 7 p.m. Monday from Heiges Field House. The Raiders needed a win and an ESU loss to secure a first-round bye, but the Warriors notched an 85-77 win at Millersville to earn a Top 2 seed along with West Chester.
Sophomore
Jake Biss scored 21 of his game-high 25 points in the first half, finishing 11-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Biss also had four assists and just one turnover in 28 minutes of action.
Biss has now scored 22 or more points in six straight games. He enters the postseason averaging 24.8 points over his last six contests, shooting 58.1 percent (54-of-93) from the field, including 54.3 percent (19-of-35) from three-point range, and making 91.7 percent (22-of-24) from the free-throw line in that span.
Senior
Antonio Kellem scored 18 points, making three three-pointers to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior
John Castello also reached double figures, scoring 10 points to complement six rebounds, two assists and a career-high three blocks.
The Raiders shot 41 percent (12-of-29) from three-point range. Junior
Lamar Talley made two three-pointers, giving him 53 for the season. Seven different Raiders made a three-pointer in the game.
Redshirt-senior
Manny Span totaled eight points, nine rebounds and a career-high five assists. Freshman
Carlos Carter and junior
Daylon Carter each recorded seven points and five rebounds, with
Daylon Carter also chipping in with three assists. Redshirt-freshman
Dom Sleva finished with five points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Shippensburg grabbed a season-high 53 rebounds on Saturday, posting a lopsided 53-28 edge on the glass. SU also equaled a season high with 21 assists, scored 25 points off turnovers, and shot 49 percent from the field overall.
Bloomsburg (7-19, 3-17) got 16 points and nine rebounds from Travis Elmore. The Huskies shot 32 percent from the field, including 1-of-15 (6.7 percent) from three-point range.
The 50 points allowed by Shippensburg mark the fewest by a Raider opponent this season. It is the fewest points yielded to an opponent by the Raiders since Cheyney managed just 50 points on Jan. 12, 2018.
