SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team battled No. 25-ranked Bloomsburg on Tuesday but could not complete a second-half rally, falling 9-6 to the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from a sunny and cool Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (3-3, 1-1 PSAC) could not recover from a 7-0 run by Bloomsburg (5-1, 2-0) that spanned from 19:34 of the first half through the 28:13 mark of the second half. The Raiders out-scored the Huskies 5-1 over the final 28 minutes of play, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Both teams had staunch defensive performances, as the first 20 minutes of the game yielded just three combined goals. The goalkeepers combined for 22 saves – including 10 made by SU freshman
Shaely Gamble. The visitors got 12 saves and three caused turnovers from keeper Angela DiPasquale.

Alana Cardaci and senior
Madi Newman eached scored twice for the Raiders, with Newman adding an assist as well. Senior

Kami Holt also found the back of the net for the Raiders.

Cardaci has now produced a team-high 19 goals through 10 games, while Newman reached double-digits for the season in reaching the 10-goal mark for the campaign. Sophomore
Jena MacDonald assisted Cardaci's first goal – which was SU's lone tally of the first half.

Valerie Hertz, who set the SU career record for caused turnovers on Saturday, added three more on Tuesday while also leading all players with seven groundballs and four draw controls. Through six games, Hertz ranks second in the PSAC in groundballs per game (4.67), fourth in draw controls per game (5.17) and fifth in caused turnovers per game (2.17).

The Raiders finished with a 10-7 edge in draw controls, posting a 6-1 margin in the first half. The two teams were a combined 1-of-15 on free-position shots.

The visitors got six points (four goals, two assists) from Hannah Jaskuta; a pair of goals from Abby Bergman, and three assists from Kirsten Wozniak. Defenders Tiffany Diachynsky and Abby Nocito combined for 10 caused turnovers and 10 groundballs.
