Sophomore
Kryshell Gordy posted her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points to complement 17 rebounds, keying the Shippensburg University women's basketball team to a 75-65 victory at Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Decker Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (12-14, 8-10 PSAC) snapped a two-game losing skid by dominating the glass, posting a 51-27 rebounding advantage that included 22 offensive rebounds and 16 second-chance points. SU also capitalized on Mountaineer mistakes by scoring 32 points off turnovers.
Gordy scored 13 of her career-high 21 points in the first half; she finished the game 7-of-15 from the field. She finished with nine defensive rebounds, eight offensive rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists while making a career-high 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Freshman
Lauren Mills scored a career-high 18 points; she made her first seven field-goal attempts of the game and was 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. Mills had nine points in each half and added four rebounds.
Sophomore
Ariel Jones returned to action and finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals while committing just two turnovers in her 33 minutes of action. Jones made a pair of three-pointers but was just 4-of-9 at the free-throw line.
Freshman
Lauren Pettis contributed seven points and six rebounds for the Raiders, while freshman
Margarita Kilpatrick and redshirt-sophomore
Lindsay Embly each scored four points off the bench.
Mansfield (2-22, 1-18) got 20 points from Paige Whitfield and 18 points from Erin Gibbons. Mia Leonard had eight points and nine blocks. The Mountaineers hit 11 three-pointers in the game, shooting 45.8 percent from long range
Jones set the PSAC single-season record for free-throw attempts on Saturday, bringing her total to 277 for the season. She surpassed the previous record of 272 set by SU's Melissa Swartz in the 1995-96 season. Jones enters Wednesday's game just four free throws shy of equaling Miki Glenn's PSAC single-season record of 223 free throws set in 2014-15 during her junior season with the Vulcans.
Shippensburg is tied with East Stroudsburg for sixth place in the PSAC East with two games remaining; but the Warriors currently hold a tiebreaker for the sixth spot due to a victory over first-place Bloomsburg. Lock Haven and Millersville are only one-half game ahead of the two teams, as the race for the final playoff spots will go right down to the wire.
UP NEXT: Wednesday, 6 p.m. vs. West Chester.
