SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team went on an 8-0 run midway through the fourth quarter Friday to flip a one-point deficit into a seven-point lead, ultimately getting past Pitt-Johnstown by a 78-71 score in a physical Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (6-4, 3-1 PSAC) won its third straight game on the strength of a season-high 50.9-percent shooting from the field and a sturdy 74-percent rate (17-of-23) at the free-throw line. SU was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, including 6-of-8 over the final 1:04 to help secure the victory.
Junior
Ariel Jones became the 11th Raider in school history to surpass 1,500 career points – she posted a game-high 34 points on 11-of-15 shooting (4-of-7 from three-point range) and 8-of-10 at the free-throw line. It is her third 30-point game of the season and the 17th of her career. She also had a season-high five assists compared to just one turnover, playing all 40 minutes.
Sophomore
Aunbrielle Green scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while fellow sophomore
Lauren Mills had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. It is the third straight game in double figures for both players.
Junior
Kryshell Gordy was 6-of-8 at the free-throw line, finishing with eight points, and grabbed a game-high and season-high 15 rebounds. It is the second straight game Gordy has recorded double-digit rebounds and the 20th time in her career she has achieved the feat.

Destiny Jefferson had four points, three assists and three steals in 18 minutes. Freshman
Fiona Rowan delivered a solid 24 minutes off the bench in her season debut, scoring five points to go along with two rebounds and an assist. Sophomore
Lauren Pettis made both of her field-goal attempts to finish with four points.
Pitt-Johnstown (7-3, 2-2 PSAC) got a career-high 16 points and seven assists from freshman point guard Olivia Fasick, while leading scorers Gabrielle Smith and Alli McGrath each finished with 14 points. Maddie Shanahan led the Mountain Cats with 12 rebounds and had six assists.
Shippensburg hosts No. 11 IUP at 5:30 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House.
