SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had five players post double figures on Sunday and held visiting Holy Family to just 33-percent shooting from the field as the Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak with a 70-58 victory over the Tigers in a 95-minute affair from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (4-4) used a 16-4 run over the final 6:30 of the second quarter to take a 33-25 lead into halftime. Holy Family (2-3) opened the second half with a 13-4 run to take a 38-37 lead, but the Raiders held the Tigers to just two points over the final 5:30 of the third quarter to take an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter. SU would not trail by less than five points the rest of the way.
The Raiders made a concerted effort to score down low, finishing with 48 points in the paint and shooting 43 percent from the field. The Tigers did manage a 46-45 edge in rebounds, including 15 on the offensive glass.
Despite the rebounding edge, both of Shippensburg's starting guards finished with double-digit rebounds. Junior
Destiny Jefferson scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds – leading all players – to achieve her first career double-double. She also had three assists. Jefferson had not achieved a 10-rebound game before this season, and has now done so twice with the Raiders.

Ariel Jones led Shippensburg with 15 points, including a 9-of-11 rate at the free-throw line. Jones finished with 10 rebounds, marking her second straight double-double with points and rebounds and the fourth of her career. She also had three assists.
Junior
Kryshell Gordy scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting, grabbed three rebounds, had three assists, and recorded a career-high six blocks. Gordy's six blocks are the most by a Raider since Lindsay Howard had six against Mansfield on Jan. 22, 2011.
Sophomore
Lauren Mills posted double figures for the second time in the last three games, scoring 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds.

Aunbrielle Green and sophomore
Lauren Pettis split the duties at center, with Green scoring 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds, and Pettis scoring six points on 3-of-5 shooting to go along with three rebounds and a block.
Both teams combined to shoot 3-of-32 (9.3 percent) from three-point range – the Tigers going 2-of-19 and the Raiders 1-of-13. Freshman
Treasure George hit Shippensburg's lone three-pointer. SU was 15-of-19 (79 percent) from the free-throw line, while the Tigers didn't get to the free-throw line until the 3:26 mark of the fourth quarter, finishing 4-of-6.
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Cal U. from Heiges Field House.
