The Shippensburg University men's basketball team shot 63 percent in the second half on Sunday to overcome a one-point halftime deficit and defeat host Edinboro, 81-65, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover from McComb Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg (6-1, 2-0 PSAC) had an excellent assist-to-turnover ratio for the second straight game, totaling 19 assists compared to just eight turnovers. SU made nine three-pointers, shooting 6-of-12 from long range in the second half, and finished 10-of-12 (83 percent) at the free-throw line.
Edinboro (4-1, 1-1) was right with the Raiders for most of the contest – the game featured eight ties and 20 lead changes – but a 12-2 SU run midway through the second half transformed a three-point game into a 13-point lead for Shippensburg with 5:04 remaining.
Junior
Jake Biss scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, and finished 4-of-6 from three-point range. Biss had a season-high seven assists and totaled three steals.
Senior
John Castello scored 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. Castello added seven rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore
Carlos Carter had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Fellow sophomore
Luke Nedrow had nine points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with a pair of assists.
Senior
Lamar Talley scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and had two assists. Junior
Kiyon Hardy had five points, five rebounds and two assists.
The Fighting Scots got 21 points from Turner Kurt, while Jaryn Simpson had six points and a game-high 11 assists.
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks when it hosts Cal U. at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
