The Shippensburg University women's basketball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon with a crossover win at Slippery Rock, defeating The Rock by a 74-60 decision in action from Morrow Field House.
Shippensburg (3-2, 1-0 PSAC) led Slippery Rock (2-3, 0-1) by four points at halftime and out-scored The Rock by a 20-10 margin in the third quarter to pull away. SRU used a 14-4 run in the fourth quarter to get within six points, 66-60, with 2:25 remaining, but the Raiders closed on an 8-0 to gain the victory.
Junior
Ariel Jones led all players with a game-high 30 points, making 11-of-21 from the field (4-of-9 from three-point range) and all four of her free-throw attempts. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore
Aunbrielle Green added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with eight rebounds.
Junior
Destiny Jefferson overcame a tough shooting day with eight points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Kryshell Gordy and sophomore
Lauren Mills each scored five points. Gordy added seven rebounds and two blocks. Mills had three rebounds.
Shippensburg out-rebounded Slippery Rock, 47-36. Both teams struggled from three-point range, with the Raiders shooting 25 percent (4-of-16) and The Rock shooting 19 percent (3-of-16). SRU got 35 of its 60 points from Brooke Hinderliter and Madison Johnson.
Shippensburg is back in action tomorrow at Edinboro.
