MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not hold off a fourth-quarter push from home-standing Millersville on Wednesday, as the Raiders dropped an 89-76 decision to the Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Pucillo Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (6-9, 3-5 PSAC) led 63-59 at the end of the third quarter, but Millersville (5-9, 2-5) out-scored the Raiders by a 30-13 margin over the final 10 minutes of play. An 11-0 run was part of an overall 21-5 stretch for the Marauders that put the game out of reach.
SU shot a season-best 80.6 percent (25-of-31) at the free-throw line and posted a 41-28 edge in rebounds, but the Raiders committed 24 turnovers that led to 25 points for the home team. MU exceeded its season scoring average by 25 points, shooting 51 percent from the field and making nine three-pointers. The Marauders also totaled 20 assists compared to just 10 turnovers.
Sophomore
Ariel Jones led four Raiders in double figures with 27 points, making a season-high 13 free throws on 14 attempts. Jones also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. It was the 13th game this season and the 29th time in her career in which she exceeded the 20-point plateau; she enters Saturday's game needing just four points to reach 1,000 for her career.
Freshman
Lauren Pettis achieved her third double-double of the season with a career-high 17 points to complement a game-high 10 rebounds. Pettis scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half, finished 6-of-8 from the field, and made a career-high five free throws on six attempts. It was her fifth game in double figures and her fourth game with double-digit rebounds.
Freshman
Lauren Mills finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mills, playing near her hometown in front of a contingent of friends and family, scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half and finished in double figures for the fifth time this season.
Freshman
Aunbrielle Green totaled 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks, shooting 4-of-7 from the field. Sophomore
Kryshell Gordy had three points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Lauren Lister was one of five Marauders in double figures with 24 points. Kendra Bamberger had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Olivia Mottern added 15 points, while Courtney Dimoff and Erika Reed each scored 11 points.
