The Shippensburg University community is saddened to learn of the April 19 death of former athletic administrator Dave Eavenson. The news was reported earlier today by the
Carlisle Sentinel.
From April 2004 through July 2005, Eavenson served as Shippensburg University's interim associate director of athletics under Roberta Page. Eavenson was a mainstay at SU athletic events for the last two decades, especially as a loyal clock operator at home basketball games.
Eavenson was an active figure in local high school sports – particularly in his native Carlisle. He served as the athletic director at Carlisle Area High School for more than 20 years, including a long tenure as an assistant football coach. Eavenson was a mentor to former Red Raider football player Josh Oswalt '09 during his tenure as the Thundering Herd head coach that began in 2010.
Recently, Eavenson was elected into Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame. He also served as the president of the South Central chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Eavenson graduated from West Chester in 1969 and received a master's degree from West Virginia in 1977.
