The Shippensburg University women's tennis team completed its 2017-18 regular season on Saturday with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Millersville. SU won a match in both singles and doubles but fell to the Marauders, 7-2, on a warm day at the McComsey Courts.
Shippensburg completed doubles play trailing Millersville by just one, 2-1, as the pairing of sophomore
Catherine Miller and senior
Hannah Coath combined for an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 flight.
It was the seventh different doubles pairing to emerge victorious this season for the Raiders. Miller notched her second doubles win of the year, while Coath completed her final match with her second doubles win of the year and her eighth overall.
Juniors
Megan Moorhead and
Victoria Galanti put forth another durable performance paired at No. 3 doubles, winning four games.
In singles play, sophomore
Daisy Rundio won a three-set match at No. 3 for her team-leading fifth victory of the season. Rundio won the first set, 7-5, and overcame a 1-6 setback in the second set with a 10-4 score in the tiebreaker to claim victory.
All six SU singles competitors won at least three games in their respective matches. At No. 6 singles, Galanti went to a tiebreaker in the first set but came up just short in a competitive 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 decision against Emily Borger.
Junior
Kaylin Gallagher won six games at No. 2, nearly forcing an extended second set in falling 6-2, 6-4. Gallagher and Rundio combined to win two games at No. 1 doubles as well.
Moorhead won four games at No. 5 singles, while Miller and Coath each won three games at No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles respectively.
"The ladies had a tough season," said head coach
Lindsey Tennis. "Having to fill higher positions was challenging, but each member of the team stepped up and competed. I am proud of how they played and I appreciate all the hard work they put in. I am grateful for this wonderful group of ladies who made my transition to Head Coach easier."
Tennis added: "Our passion for the game is growing along with our drive to win. I am hoping we continue this momentum and expand our team and team culture next fall."
