The No. 25 Shippensburg University men's basketball team made nine of its 12 three-pointers in the second half Tuesday night to shoot its way past host Gannon, 72-58, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from the Hammermill Center.
Shippensburg (9-2, 3-1 PSAC) used an 18-4 run midway through the second half to establish a 61-39 lead with 7:36 remaining. The Raiders led by as many as 10 points in the first half and by 24 points late in the second half before the hosts closed the gap in the final minutes.
Gannon (3-7, 1-3) entered Tuesday's game limiting opponents to 28 percent shooting from three-point range, but the Raiders finished with a 40-percent proficiency from long range. SU also posted identical field-goal percentages (46.4) in each half – shooting 47 percent from three-point range after halftime.
Junior
John Castello led all players with 16 points, making 3-of-7 from three-point range. Fellow junior
Lamar Talley was 4-of-8 from three-point range, totaling 14 points in addition to a team-high six rebounds.
Sophomore
Jake Biss scored 14 points, including three three-pointers, and totaled seven of Shippensburg's season-high 21 assists. Senior
Antonio Kellem scored 12 points.
Off the bench, redshirt-freshman
Dom Sleva added eight points, while junior
Daylon Carter contributed two points, two rebounds and four assists.
