The Shippensburg University field hockey team will play for the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship at 1 p.m. Sunday versus host West Chester at Vonnie Gros Field.
Â
Shippensburg (16-3) will be playing in its 12th PSAC Championship game, including its eighth in the last 15 years, while seeking its second-ever conference title. It is SU's first appearance in the PSAC title game since 2016 against Millersville at East Stroudsburg.
Â
West Chester (16-2), the No. 1 seed in the conference and the No. 1 team in the nation per the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) rankings, is seeking its second consecutive PSAC Championship after posting a 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg last season at SU's Robb Sports Complex.
Â
The two teams met earlier this season on Oct. 9 at Shippensburg, with West Chester posting a 4-2 victory over the Raiders. SU enters Sunday on a nine-game winning streak, with the loss to the Golden Rams being the team's last setback.Â
Â
Shippensburg defeated Bloomsburg on Tuesday in overtime, 2-1, in the PSAC Quarterfinals before besting East Stroudsburg, 3-0, on Friday at West Chester in the PSAC Semifinals. West Chester, as the No. 1 seed, earned a bye into the semifinals where it defeated Millersville, 2-0, on Friday.
Â
Sunday is the first matchup between the two teams in a PSAC Championship game.
