RECAP: Football Rallies Past Lock Haven on the Road, 56-37

SU puts up 42 second-half points to defeat the Bald Eagles

The Shippensburg University football team used a 42-point second half on Saturday to rally and defeat Lock Haven in come-from-behind fashion, besting the Bald Eagles 56-37 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Hubert Jack Stadium.
 
Shippensburg (4-5, 2-3 PSAC East) trailed Lock Haven (1-8, 1-4) for the majority of the first three quarters before scoring three touchdowns in a six-minute span to gain a decisive advantage over a resilient Bald Eagle squad playing their final home game.  SU trailed 10-0 in the first quarter, 23-14 at halftime, and 30-28 with 3:00 left in the third quarter.
 
The two teams combined for 962 yards of total offense, with the Red Raiders recording 282 passing yards and 231 rushing yards. Lock Haven benefitted from big plays for three of its five touchdowns, scoring on plays of 58, 79 and 86 yards.
 
Redshirt-sophomore running back Raleigh Sirb ran for a career-high 152 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries – nearly doubling his season rushing output prior to Saturday. Sirb is the first SU running back to break the 100-yard mark this season.
 
Redshirt-freshman quarterback Brycen Mussina completed 23-of-38 passes for 282 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. Mussina maintains his conference lead for passing yards (2,933) and passing touchdowns (28) this season while now ranking fourth in single-season school history for both categories.
 
Senior quarterback Chase Yocum ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns and also totaled a career-high 140 kickoff return yards, including a 66-yard return to open the second half. Yocum became the SU record holder for career rushing yards by a quarterback Saturday with 1,289, passing former teammate Ryan Zapoticky (1,259). He ranks seventh all-time in PSAC history for the statistic.
 
Redshirt-junior wide receiver Josh Gontarek had a team-high eight receptions for 58 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Gontarek is now tied for the conference lead with eight receiving touchdowns this season while ranking second in the PSAC in receiving yards (899).
 
Redshirt-sophomore wide receiver Winston Eubanks had five catches for 90 yards – including a late 53-yard touchdown that concluded the scoring. Redshirt-freshman receiver Mari Wright caught his first collegiate touchdown – a 26-yard score in the fourth quarter.
 
Redshirt-junior linebacker Tig Spinelli led the defense with 12 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss (TFLs). Senior linebacker Tyler Emge had nine tackles, including 2.5 TFLs, while redshirt-senior linemen John Durkin and Richard Nase each recorded sacks.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Terez Franklin and redshirt-junior Jailen Harmon each intercepted passes in the game – marking the second of the season for both men.
 
For Lock Haven, running back Chantz Swartz totaled 144 of his 172 rushing yards on two long touchdown runs; he was limited to 28 yards on his other 16 carries. Quarterback Cameron Tobias threw for 256 yards and three touchdown. Wide receiver Jalen Jackson had 116 yards and two touchdowns.
 
SU has two games remaining, with the home finale set for next Saturday.
