RECAP: McGarrigle’s OT Goal Puts No. 5 Field Hockey Past No. 6 Kutztown, 3-2

SU improves to 2-2 in conference play

Freshman Adrienne McGarrigle scored her second and third collegiate goals on Friday, including the game-winner two minutes into overtime, to propel the No. 5 Shippensburg University field hockey team to a 3-2 road victory over No. 6 Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Andre Reed Stadium.

Shippensburg (8-3, 2-2 PSAC) established a 2-0 lead with 24 minutes remaining before Kutztown (9-3, 2-2) ramped up the pressure down the stretch, eventually evening the score at 2-2 with just 11 seconds remaining in regulation. McGarrigle's winner came exactly 2:00 into overtime, as she rebounded her own shot for the decisive tally.

McGarrigle opened the scoring with 6:27 left in the first half, finishing a cross from sophomore Molly Herigan. The goal gave SU a 1-0 halftime advantage.

About 10 minutes into the second half, sophomore Jazmin Petrantonio caged her 15th goal of the year by finishing a corner. Assists were credited to freshman Jenna Sluymer and junior Rosalia Cappadora. Petrantonio has now scored in three straight matches and in seven contests overall this season.

After Shippensburg established a 9-8 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in penalty corners at the half, Kutztown flipped the script in the second half with a 14-1 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in penalty corners. SU's only second-half shot was the Petrantonio goal on the penalty corner.

Redshirt-senior Ally Mooney was strong, finishing with eight saves to record the victory in goal. Mooney made four saves in each half. Friday marked the third time this season Mooney has made eight or saves in a match.

UP NEXT: Tuesday, 4:05 p.m. vs. Millersville (NCAA #DIIShowcase).
