QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team got seventh-inning home runs from freshman
Kendall Geis and junior
Tara Bicko for another win at the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, posting a 3-1 victory over Seton Hill in Game 11 from Veterans Park.
Shippensburg (29-22) advances to face Lock Haven (27-20) in Game 14 of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. – the third game of the day for both teams. Seton Hill (22-24), the West Division No. 2 seed, was eliminated with the loss.
The Raiders and Griffins were scoreless entering the seventh inning before Geis teed off on the second pitch of the frame with a long blast to center field – her first collegiate home run. Geis had singled off the center-field wall on the fly earlier in the game.
With one out and a runner on first, Bicko crushed a long home run to right field – her 10th hit in four games of the tournament – that gave SU a 3-0 lead. The Griffins hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh but were held to just five hits in the contest.
Sophomore
Taryn Wilson scattered a run on five hits to improve to 14-4 on the season. Wilson walked just one and struck out four to win her third game of the tournament.
Bicko was 3-for-4 with a homer, double and the two RBIs. Juniors
Maddie Mulhall and
Anna Warfield were among the other Raiders with hits – Warfield scored on Bicko's home run after replacing Mulhall on the bases after a fielder's choice.
