The Shippensburg University lacrosse team came up just short on Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road clash at Gannon, falling 9-8 to the Golden Knights from McConnell Family Stadium.

Shippensburg (6-5, 2-5 PSAC) grabbed an 8-7 lead with 18 minutes remaining but was held scoreless for the remainder of the contest. SU posted a 30-22 advantage in shots and an incredible 17-2 advantage in draw controls, but fouls were decidedly against the Raiders – a 48-20 margin in the home team's favor.

Gannon (3-7, 1-5) scored all of its goals via free position attempts, either straight off shots or via assists from eight-meter opportunities. The Golden Knights never led by more than one goal in the contest, scoring with 60 seconds remaining to set the final margin.

The game was scoreless for the first 11 minutes until Gannon got on the board. SU established first-half leads of 3-1 and 4-3 and second-half leads of 5-4, 6-5 and 8-7.

Amanda Frank had two goals and two assists – giving her 22 goals and 20 assists for a team-leading 42 points through 11 games.

Max Barkley recorded a season-high nine draw controls to complement three groundballs. Sophomore
Valerie Hertz had six draw controls and one caused turnover. Stone, Johnson and Newman each were credited with two caused turnovers. Additionally, Stone and Johnson recorded four groundballs.

Bridgette Morrissey made seven saves – a total tied for her second-most in a PSAC match this season.

Shippensburg remains on the road for its next contest, traveling Wednesday to East Stroudsburg for a 4 p.m. clash with the Warriors. SU will partner with East Stroudsburg, head coach
Nicole Miller's alma mater, to participate in the Alyssa Oxenford Memorial Game – commemorating the life of a former Warrior lacrosse player who lost a battle with leukemia.
