WINGATE, N.C. – The Shippensburg University baseball team fell to Wingate on Sunday, 3-1, in the series finale of its three-game series on a sunny afternoon from Rod Christopher Stadium.Â

Shippensburg (0-6) and Wingate (8-7) found themselves in a pitching duel as the starters for both teams combined for 14 innings pitched and 17 strikeouts.

Junior
Gabe Mosser logged an impressive line in his second start of the season. Mosser went six innings, scattering three hits and surrendering just two earned runs while recording 10 strikeouts. This is the second time in Mosser's career he has notched 10 strikeouts in a game. He previously struck out 13 batters on April 4, 2015 at Kutztown.

The Raiders lone run came on a line-drive home run over the left-field fence from junior
Dalton Hoiles, his first of the season, which gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Hoiles and sophomore
Drew Bene were the lone Raiders to record multi-hit days on the afternoon. Senior
Jake Kennedy and sophomore
Cash Gladfelter each doubled as well.

Wingate scored two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI-single and a sacrifice fly off Mosser to take a 2-1 lead. Freshman
Jacob Menders relieved Mosser in the seventh, logging two innings while giving up just one run.

Shippensburg will return to action on Friday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Southern New Hampshire at Fairchild Field.
