No. 8 Men’s Basketball Edged on the Road by Western Foe Edinboro, 88-86

SU drops first contest despite 26 from Sleva; 21 from McCarthur

The No. 8 Shippensburg men's basketball team could not hold on to a double-digit lead in the second half on Sunday, as host Edinboro scored 50 points in the second half to rally and defeat the Raiders, 88-86, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road matchup from McComb Field House.
 
Shippensburg (3-1, 1-1 PSAC) shot 56 percent from the field in the first half but just 38 percent in the second half, finishing with 10 three-pointers and a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (12 assists, 9 turnovers) for the fourth straight game.
 
Senior Dustin Sleva poured in 26 more points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field to go along with nine rebounds. Senior Justin McCarthur got hot from three-point range, shooting 5-of-10 from distance to finish with a season-high 21 points. McCarthur also had five assists and four rebounds.
 
Senior Clay Conner scored 10 points, including two three-pointers, and had three assists with no turnovers in 35 minutes. Junior Antonio Kellem had nine points, six rebounds and two assists.
 
Off the bench, freshman Jake Biss contributed 10 points in 19 minutes, shooting 4-of-7 from the field.
 
Edinboro (3-0, 2-0) shot 15-of-34 (44 percent) from three-point range and committed just five turnovers in the upset victory. The Fighting Scots got their first 20 points of the contest all from guard Anthony Coleman. The junior transfer finished with a game-high 30 points, shooting 8-of-13 from three-point range. Keeshawn Liggins finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, six assists.
 
Shippensburg returns to action at 2 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Wilmington (Del.) for an afternoon matchup with the Wildcats.
