SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored two goals in each half Tuesday en route to a convincing 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Chestnut Hill in a non-league matchup at David See Field.
Shippensburg (2-1) consistently out-chanced the Griffins, posting a 27-3 advantage in shots and a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal. SU also managed an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.
After numerous scoring chances in the first half, including a rocket off the crossbar in the 17th minute by junior
Mallory Patterson, SU finally got on the scoreboard in the 39th minute with two goals in a 70-second span.
Freshman
Paige Harris ripped a volley into the net from close range off a corner kick from senior
Stephanie Allshouse to put SU up 1-0. Just 1:09 later, sophomore
Beth McGee intercepted a throw-in and ripped a volley left post from outside the 18-yard box to give the Raiders a 2-0 advantage.
Twelve minutes into the second half, SU made it 3-0 when junior
Kat Hartner made a spirited run up the far side of the field and sent a cross into the middle, where sophomore
Tori Mills collected a carom off a defender and sent the ball into a vacated goal.
SU's final goal came off a corner kick in the 70th minute, when sophomore
Lexi Albert headed a corner far post from redshirt-freshman
Keegan White.
Mills has now scored a goal in each of SU's three games this season. Junior goalkeepers
Leah Roy and
Kayla Kennedy combined for the shutout and were forced to make just one save between them.
Chestnut Hill (1-1) got 11 saves from its keeper, Meghan Guagenti.
Shippensburg returns to conference play at 1 p.m. Friday when the Raiders host Edinboro from David See Field.
