SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team will host No. 1 East Stroudsburg on Saturday at noon from Robb Sports Complex in a battle of the top-ranked teams currently in NCAA Division II.

Shippensburg (5-0) began the year ranked No. 6 in the country but has been elevated to No. 2 on the strength of its undefeated start. SU defeated IUP in overtime on the road Wednesday, and the Raiders have posted four shutouts through five contests.

East Stroudsburg (4-2), the defending national champions, have two losses — dropping a 3-0 decision at Bloomsburg and a 1-0 home decision to LIU Post — but also have some impressive victories, including a 4-2 win over Merrimack in a rematch of last year's title game and a 4-0 shutout of West Chester.

Saturday's matchup will be the latest in what has been a storied rivalry between two of Division II's top programs. SU has won six-in-a-row in the series dating back through the start of the 2011 season, including a 1-0 win last year. East Stroudsburg's last victory in the series came in 2010 when the Warriors defeated the Raiders in the PSAC Semifinals.
